Video marketing has become extremely important in the world of virtual marketing. As virtual marketing is becoming more competitive, marketers need to find new ways to promote their websites and products. Have you ever heard the phrase “A picture is worth a thousand words?” Well a video is worth ten thousand.
As the internet has grown in popularity, more and more websites are vying for peoples attention. Thousands of new websites, scaling every possible niche are created everyday. Unfortunately, with this increase in options, the attention span of surfers has reduced. People expect to find the information they seek within the first 10 seconds of visiting a website. If it takes a while for them to find the information or if they have to do a lot of reading in order to get to that information, they will move on to the next website.
Video marketing is a good way to keep peoples attention. Here are some of the main benefits of video marketing:
- Dissemination of information: A video communicates to the end user using both video and audio. The user gets more information in less time.
- Flexibility: You can use graphics, special effects, interviews etc. to communicate with people. A picture does not allow for this flexibility.
- Technology: A general perception is that in order to create a video, you have to have hi-tech equipment and production ability. This is not true. You can actually create a video using your home computer and a $10 microphone. For example, you can create a PowerPoint presentation and put it on a timer so that there is a constant flow. Now, you record something on your laptop and using the tools found in PowerPoint, you can sync both to create a video. You can also use more complex software on your computer to create videos.
- Perception of value: Since people generally think that making a video is expensive, if they see a video on your site, they think that your company must be serious about its product if they spent the time and money to create a video. This makes them trust you more.
- Convenience: As I stated above, it is more convenient to see a video than it is to read a long diatribe about something.
- Promotion: It is now easy to promote a website through videos. If you have an interesting video, you can put it up on YouTube, AOL, Metacafe etc. There are a number of video sharing websites on the internet. All you have to do is to tag your video and put it online. If the video is good, it will go viral within no time and you will see a surge of traffic to your website.
- Portability: Videos are now accessible on your computer, mobile phones and I-Pods.
- SEO: Google has now introduced universal search. This means that Google can now index videos.
- Increased demand for videos: Since there are an increasing number of video sites, there is more demand for quality videos.
- VLOG: Video blogging is becoming more popular. This has grown with the growth in blogging over the last few years and bloggers are constantly looking for the right content for their websites.
- Quality: The wonderful thing about the internet is that it rewards quality and ignores ordinary work. If your video is not of a high quality, it will not succeed and you will find out soon enough because you won’t have many leads. This is actually a good thing because it teaches you to observe the needs of your target audience and to adjust the content of the videos you create until you get the right mix of quality and entertainment.
In summary, video marketing is growing. It is a trend that will continue to grow over the next few years and if you want to be a part of this growing trend, you have to do it now. Marketers are becoming savvier and the not so savvy marketers are hiring the savvy ones. With the right amount of research and hard work, you can make video marketing one of the most effective marketing tools for your business.
